How do I choose the right awning for my home?
The decision for the right awning should be made after consulting with an experienced technician, who will recommend the types of awnings suitable for each space. Choosing an awning is not a simple decision. The technician, together with the client, must select which awning system is appropriate for the space.
In apartments, the awning is usually installed on the balcony ceiling. In penthouses, balconies are often nonexistent or very small, so the type of awning must match the requirements and dimensions of the space. In detached houses and ground-floor units with gardens, the situation is similar to penthouses.
The types of awning systems vary
Loggia Awning with Arms:
This system has two bases that are installed at the edges, and on top of them, axes and arms are supported. It can be installed on ceilings and walls.
Bar Awning:
The bar awning is an independently supported system, where the bases can be installed on ceilings or walls independently of the arms. With this system, and using intermediate joints, it is possible to achieve large dimensions, which is useful for ground floors and penthouses without balcony coverage, providing protection from sun and rain.
Cassette Awning:
The cassette awning adds aesthetics to your space by enclosing the fabric and arms in a protective box, shielding them during the winter months. There are options in aluminum colors as well as shapes, such as oval and square.
Semi-Cassette Awning:
The semi-cassette is a system similar to a loggia or bar awning, where a box covers the fabric and axis for protection, while the arms remain visible.
Vertical (Rineto) Awning:
This is a vertical awning that can be installed using hooks at the bottom or two side guides with a cable system.
- The fabrics that can be used in these awning systems are acrylic, which provides a cooler environment compared to polyester fabrics. For the vertical (Rineto) awning, there is also the option of using transparent vinyl.
- Awnings can operate manually or with an electric motor. Motorized systems can include sun sensors, allowing the awning to extend automatically at sunrise and retract at sunset, as well as wind sensors for automatic protection against adverse weather conditions.
- The client and the installer select the shading solution together, considering the client’s budget. It is always recommended to request specifications from the awning system that is chosen.
